Gone are the days when the kitchen was the province of boring pots, aluminium pans and functional utensils. The modern kitchen, as befits its place in the new domestic regimes of the 21st century, is a place where fun products have every bit as much space as the kettle, the cooker and the microwave. Ultimately, melamine products answer the two greatest needs of a kitchen user: durability (and easy cleaning) and attractiveness. Kitchen accessories made from melamine look great, so the kitchen becomes a good place to be in †and they don’t break very easily, which makes it a cheaper place to run. In post credit crunch Britain, that’s a double whammy of fun and frugality no-one need sniff at.
