Massage Therapy Careers

By: William Hauselberg Home | Reference-and-Education

It’s not unusual to find yourself, 18 years old, graduating high school and with no clue where your life is going or what you want to do with it. Many young adults find themselves thrown into their futures without enough time to figure out what career best suits them. For many, this results in four years spent and 40,000 dollars in debt and nothing to show for it. This is why it is so important to spend a bit of time deciphering which career path is right for you before jumping into the next step of your life after high school.

Often times, it is already assumed that there is no better choice for a recent high school grad than that of a traditional four-year college. However, the truth is that there are several different ways to gain continued education and the traditional college setting isn’t right for everyone. Today, technical schools in Pennsylvania offer training in many careers that doesn’t require the time or money a traditional college may ask of you. Certificates can be acquired in the paralegal area, cosmetology, accounting and more.

A decision other than that of what type of college you will attend is one of even more importance, what area you will focus in. If you enjoy working with your hands, helping others, stress-relief techniques and learning about the fascinating human body, a professional massage therapy program may be perfect for you. Many massage therapists are self-employed. Massage therapy can act as a primary career or even a second source of income. There is a calm, relaxing atmosphere that comes along with a career in massage therapy. This atmosphere creates for a low-stress work environment and a situation where you may even find yourself going to work to take space from the stressors of life at home. Also, someone who tends to have an engaging personality, always striking up conversation and meeting new people, will find this field to be fulfilling in a social aspect as well. The constant flow of clients will allow you to learn a lot about others as well as meet new people.

Graduating high school and being expected to choose what to do with the rest of your life can be quite overwhelming. Be sure to think through your decision so that you land on the career that best fits you. Don’t spend four years and large amounts of money putting yourself through college. It may take less than two years and half the amount of money to get the education needed to be successful and happy in your future career.
