The encouraging scenario of healthcare sector in India can be attributed to the fact that more and more talented young doctors are coming out of top medical colleges of the country and serving the masses in the best possible manner. All kinds of medical education in the country are governed and supervised by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Various universities and institutes here confer degrees such as MBBS, MD, MS, BDS and MDS in accordance with the benchmarks stipulated by the MCI. All the degrees are globally accredited. Entrance exams are conducted to accept candidates for different medical colleges in India. While All India Entrance Test takes place at the national level, the Common Entrance Test is conducted at the state level. Some of the names include Christian Medical College (CMC), Madras Medical College (MMC) and Rajah Muthiah medical college. Situated in Vellore, CMC was established in 1900 with only a single bed. Nowadays, it is a renowned institution and hospital boasting more than 2300 beds across 4 locations and more than 7000 employees. MMC, located in Chennai, has emerged out of Government General Hospital that was established in 1664 to take care of traders associated with the East India Company. These days, the institution is a prestigious name for all types of graduate, postgraduate and diploma courses in specializations like psychopathology, nursing, ophthalmology, surgery and pediatrics. Top medical colleges in Maharashtra are run by government as well as private organizations. These institutes offer courses with duration of 4 to 6 years. Different specializations include pharmacy, general medicine and dental medicine. This third-biggest state in India has institutions such as Grant Medical College (GMC) and the Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences. GMC in Mumbai is ranked among the top ten medical colleges in India in accordance with a popular magazine. Around 100 students take admission into its MBBS course every year and approximately 50 students into its nursing course. The institute provides education in fields such as medicine, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, urology, reconstructive surgery, psychotherapy and biochemistry.
