Mega Search Engines, Article Writers Must Understand Latent Semantic Indexing

By: Wycliffe Williams Home |

The mega search engines like Google, now use latent semantic indexing. Utilizing this process clearly indicates how much value Google places on the various services it brings to its customers. It is a service that dovetails nicely with search engines in trying to bring to their users the precise information they have requested.

Website owners immediately saw dollars and cents when Adsense came on the scene. They threw up webpages hand over fist in order to capitalize on the Adsense money train.
Thousands of webpages meant thousands of dollars.

Use a template and throw those sites up. Then smile all the way to the bank. This happened on a daily basis. These websites were purely for Adsense loot. Other than that they were useless. Just a webpage chuck full of Adsense adverts.

You can request specific information and be led to a webpage loaded with adsense ads. The content would have absolutely nothing to do with your original request. You were made to wonder why the search engine bought up that page in its results. It was a meaningless webpage.

Latent semantic indexing was bought in as one answer to stem the hemorrhaging of Adsense funds. It is also a type of sentry that will make sure that website content is useful. After all, everyone is using the mega search engines.

Lets take a simple look at latent semantic indexing. Latent in this context means that a word like glasses will only come alive and reveal its true meaning through other factors. Glasses could be something that you use to drink water out of. It could also be something that you put on your face to help you to see.

Surrounding text will reveal its true meaning. The word semantic has to do with words. It guides and helps to unlock meaning; for instance, the key to unlock the meaning would come when you say that you lost a pair of glasses.

With indexing we are talking about a file that can be accessed by a search system. That file will also be housed in an area where content should give you some indication of what that file is about.

With Adsense, the page was not giving any information on shape of glasses, the page dealt in generalities. When you are searching for information and you have time constraints, you do not want to be clicking Adsense pages. It was for this reason that latent semantic indexing began to be used in the mega search engines.

Sites with unclear keywords will lose ranking with search engines. The reason for the existence of the webpage must be clear as crystal. When searching the internet for information on the shape of glasses, which glasses do you mean? Are you looking for material on glasses that you drink from or do you mean glasses that help you to see?

Here is what the webpage might say:

The internet has plenty of websites on glasses. Please visit our related sites for more information on the shape of glasses.

Latent semantic indexing does this for the searcher:

The internet is the best place to look for information on the shape of glasses. You will find that the shape of glasses depends almost entirely on the shape of the persons face. Some people have long narrow faces. Others have wide fat faces.

Which page would you like to click if you are in a hurry? Again, this service instituted by Google is a clear indicator of the value they place on the type of services they bring to the table for the customer.
