Middle Age Fitness - Choosing The Right Exercise Equipment

By: Allison Thompson Home | Health-and-Fitness

As we all know using any kind of exercise equipment is a great way for a person to get fit. There are many different types of equipment that a person can use and also the prices that you pay for them are different as well. However in this article we will take a look at several different pieces of fitness equipment which you can use at home as well as in the gym. There are a large number of different pieces of equipment that fall in to the home gym category. But because many people are restricted by how much space they have available in their homes as well as budgetary constraints we will focus on 4 particular pieces of fitness equipment.

Treadmills

Of all the exercise equipment a person can buy for use at home the treadmill is one of the most popular of all. As you will soon discover there are a number of different types of treadmill a person can buy. For those on a limited budget they can choose a very basic type of treadmill. Whilst those with a little bit more cash to spare can go for one that can actually be connected up to their PC. It is however important that which ever machine a person chooses it is one that it well constructed and is solidly built. Look for one that has a wide belt which when set at an incline position will still be comfortable and easy to both walk and run on. Another major feature that your treadmill should have and which most now come with is a safety cut off mechanism. This mechanism usually consists of a key with a rope attached to it. The key then slots into the machine and if at any time it becomes removed the treadmill will stop automatically preventing any kind of damage or injury to the person using it.

Elliptical Trainer

This particular piece of fitness equipment is ideal for those people who are looking for an exercise that is low in impact and therefore will not put too much stress on the bones in their legs. Also this particular type of machine is very easy to use so even some one who is completely new to exercise will have no problems with using it. Plus as time goes by and a person's fitness levels improve they can use this machine to increase the intensity of their work out session. It also provides them with the chance to increase how much resistance they use in order to make the muscles in their legs and arms work much harder.

Exercise Bikes

If you are looking for a much more comfortable way to exercise and a piece of exercise equipment that takes up very little space then this may be the ideal piece of equipment for you. This particular piece of equipment is particularly good for those people who have led very sedentary lives and are only just starting to exercise again.

Finally we will now take a look at one further piece of exercise equipment which can be used in the comfort of your own home and which compared to the other pieces of equipment discussed is the most affordable.

An Exercise Ball

This particular piece of equipment has grown in popularity not only to be used in gyms but in homes as well over recent years. Yet in fact it was first being used back in the 1960's by therapists to help improve the balance of children who were suffering from muscular dystrophy. Although it has been around for more than 40 years it has only been in the last few years that other fitness experts have suddenly come to realize that this piece of exercise equipment is beneficial to anyone who is looking to improve their fitness levels as well as their well being.
