Minnesota Golf Courses- Kimball Golf Club A Great Value In Central Minnesota

By: Dana Buttenhoff Home | Travel-and-Leisure

Great places to play are just a short drive away when you are exploring the Minnesota rural golf landscape. Kimball Golf Club is another example of a fine golf course that is a reasonable driving distance from the Twin Cities area, especially if you are coming from the northwestern suburbs. A quick journey west on Interstate 94 and then south on state highway 15 brings you to Kimball in just a few minutes.

Another fantastic feature of this Joel Goldstrand designed golf course is the reasonable fee that is charged to play at Kimball Golf Club. The fee to play 18-holes on the weekend is just $29.00 and power cart rental is also available for an additional charge, see clubhouse for details. Kimball Golf Club has available a fantastic Internet coupon that can be found on their website www.kimballgolf.com this coupon allows you to play 18-holes of golf with power cart rental for one person for only $28.00 if you tee off after 1:00PM on weekends or anytime on weekdays. In the heart of the summer season the sun does not set until after 8:30PM in central Minnesota, this allows plenty of time to take advantage of this fantastic rate. Make sure to visit their website and print off the coupon to take advantage of this special rate.

Kimball Golf Club was started in 1967 with play beginning in 1968. The back nine was opened in 1997 with an intermixing of some holes from the new and original sections of the golf course. There are many challenging holes with dramatic elevation changes as well as blind shots into greens, which make the golfer really trust their swing and play the shot by the yardage provided. Two great examples of this are holes 9 and 18. Hole number 9 is a 540-yard par-5 that requires three well-struck shots into a sloped green. Hole number 18 is a 426-yard par 4 that hides the green until you are approximately 150 yards out. If you can place your tee shot from 150 to 130 yards from the green, you have a nice look at the green. If you hit the tee shot farther than that you risk dropping down into a ravine. I elected to play to the green in three shots and making a one-putt for a par. Using ones imagination can go a long way on this golf course in helping you to post a lower score. Remembering that every par 4 doesn't automatically mean that you play your driver from the tee box and also to take advantage of birdie putts when the opportunities present themselves.

A great example of this is the signature hole, number 15. Hole 15 is a 321-yard par 4. In typical Joel Goldstrand fashion this hole plays to an island green. All that is required of the golfer is to hit a 200-yard tee shot and then an easy wedge shot is all that remains. Execution of these two shots is what separates the golfer from a birdie attempt and a double-bogey or much worse.

Kimball Golf Club measures 6,652 yards from the back tees and has a slope index of 129 and a course rating of 71.9. Head Professional Judd Bonham along with Course Superintendent Curt Erickson do a fine job to make Kimball Golf Club an enjoyable value for the golfing public of central Minnesota as well as the Twin Cities area. Please call 320-398-2285 to make a tee time.
