Mixed Canine Breeds

By: Kevin Lampard Home | Home-and-Family | Pets

Ever seen a dog that looks like a Labrador retriever and still he was a lot different from a Labrador retriever because he has different eyes and a longer coat? Ever seen a Lhasa Apso who is too short to be apso but looks exactly like one? All these are called mixed breeds and do not be surprised if we say there is any increasing demand for mixed breeds.

The mixed breeds are as competent as the regular pedigrees and they have the same qualities mostly or best of both the breeds that they are a mix of. These mixed breeds are found in animal shelters mostly and they are adopted form there. The mixed breeds occur because of dogs that are left out for a stroll by their owners and they end up crossing a do of another breed.

These dogs are usually called the cross breeds because there is no name that can be given to them which is recognized by the Kennel club. The most common of the cross breeds are found in terriers, Spaniels, retrievers and hounds because these are the most common dogs that people own.

One of the common examples which are getting extremely popular is the Labradoodle which is a cross between the Labrador and the poodle. This breed of dog has the best of both the breeds because it has the long coat that does not shed very easily and is taken after the poodle which has a good coat and the easy going temperament of the Labrador. This makes an ideal pet and an easy maintenance pet.

The breed has become so popular that now people deliberately cross the poodles and the Labrador so that they get the labradoodle as a result. The mixed breeds are also stronger and known to be better pets than the pure breeds after many researches conducted by the veterinarians. The mixed breed canines are also easy to maintain and many dog owners are breaking free from the pre conceived notion that they have to keep thorough bred dogs as pets.

The maintenance is the most difficult part for any pet owner and when it comes to mixed breed in canines they clearly noticed the difference in the decreased level of maintenance.

A mixed breed is not a single breed of dog and it can be a mix of any two breeds. There is no clear definition of a mixed breed and that is why the kennel Club cannot certify because there are already 400 registered species of dogs and the possibilities for mixed breeds are numerous based on the permutation and combination rule. It is more easy and free to bring home a dog from the animal shelter than got to a pet store and buy one.
