Moody's Namena On Namenalala Island Fiji

By: Gordon Steven Home | Travel-and-Leisure

Moody's Namena on Namenalala Island Fiji is not for people who need to be entertained. It's for people for whom the journey and the surroundings and the company are what makes a vacation.

It is a three hour boat ride to Namenalala, whose name means 'Uninhabited Island' , which is close enough because there can only ever be 10 guests in a small retreat on the edge of the jungle.

This is a totally unique form of escapism, not because of what Moody's has, but what it doesn't have. It doesn't have electricity, so no television, or stereo music, or cell phones, and that in itself is almost good enough for me.

So what has it got?...

It is just the most beautiful island, and it is large enough to enjoy, and to escape in if you get what I mean. Small coral atolls can be almost claustrophobic, and this most definitely is not.

There are gorgeous white sand beaches that are completely secluded with crystal clear turquoise sea all around, and the water is warm as well!!

I should add that any return to nature style vacation like Moody's has also got the kind of wildlife associated with a tropical island stuck out in the middle of the ocean, by this I mean, mosquitos, spiders, birds and bats almost wherever you go!

I am a bit of a foody on my vacation, and the food here does not disappoint, with each meal different, but delicious, and eaten dinner party style with the other guests and owners in the Club House. If you want a picnic lunch, just ask, it will be perfectly prepared. All meals are included in the price.

Accommodation is in six large and spacious houses called 'Bures' which are well apart. They are designed so well, and all have spectacular views, because they are a hexagonal design, with five doors which can all be open, for the view and for the breeze!!

They appear to be self sufficient with piped gas that heats the water, and a kettle, with rainwater for drinking water, and salt water for the toilets.

Solar power for the fan and a small reading light.

Romantic gas lights and a King sized bed draped with a mosquito net complete the picture, along with local hardwood fittings complete the picture.

You must go before the 21st century arrives and maybe spoils it all
