Name Tags: Branding Yourself With Your Identity

Name tags are used commonly in many social and commercial events where you proclaim that you belong to a certain organization or group through them. They are easily your gateway to getting some productive recognition if your motive is to promote your product or service. Name tags are of varied kinds and with time we have newer ideas of making a name tag user friendly and even fabric friendly. Not everyone is ok with name tags that are also stickers afraid that it might ruin their expensive clothing. Thus we have in existence name tags in the form of magnetic name tags, clip name tags and lanyards.

The most important factor in a quintessential name tag is the representation of the name of the bearer. Most often than not, the name tags tend to repeat your name wherein your name is made prominent with bigger fonts and the complete name is written below it in fine fonts. However, if you do not really have issues like a long last name or initials included in your full name then your name must be spelt the way it is displayed in the larger image keeping it simple and professional.

There are no written rules as to how your name tag should look or where it must be placed. With some simple techniques you can make something as simple as a nametag an effective factor in bringing in more business to your organization. Especially, with the name tags that are used in tradeshows and seminars, you must project the company or institution name as well as your brand name prominently. It is not advised to cramp the constricted space in a name tag with information that can be either verbally expressed or that is obvious to the onlooker. This would include your designation in the company or details of the company itself that looks better on a business card.

Some people use their business card itself as a name tag which could be avoided since most of the information is printed in substantially smaller fonts that is difficult to read even a few feet away. The basic idea of a name tag essentially is to promote your name and the brand name. Your prospective booth visitors may fall into different age category and not everyone has Superman’s vision. So it is better to keep the information such that it encompasses the 3 P’s †professional, precise and prominent.

Also positioning the name tag is important depending on the situation. They say that positioning it on the right side of your chest is ideal since that is the place that falls in the straight line of vision when someone offers a handshake. This might not hold true to everyone though. There are times when the name tags are meant for ushers of an event or anyone who is catering to a crowd or a procession who might move along to your left and in such instances you need to position it on your left chest.
