Any dietary supplement or herb which can elevate the levels of estrogen naturally in a woman's body acts as natural remedy for hot flashes. There are many herbs which have been used to supplement or produce estrogen hormone. These herbs are ginseng, licorice roots, sarasparilla, black cohosh, chaste berry, damiana, motherwort and spearmint, all of these herbs contain plant estrogen which is helpful in elevating estrogen levels to cure this problem.

Most menopausal women can describe a hot flash for you. If you are awake, you can feel the heat start in your chest, work its way up your neck, face and to the top of your head. No one really knows what causes them. They are believed to be related to lessening estrogen production by the ovaries. Since, surgical removal of the ovaries, at any age, causes them and estrogen replacement therapy relieves them.

The Women's Health Initiative (WHI) began in 1991 and many of the health issues related to older women are still being studied. The study concerning hormone replacement therapy ended in 2002, because of the large number of reported adverse events. The study concluded that HRT increased a woman's risk of developing blot clots and stroke. Estrogen only therapy increases a woman's risk of endometrial cancer, if she still has her uterus.

Black Cohosh can be taken as a pill or as a tea. Take a couple of times a day. Results usually take one to two weeks. Remember that natural remedies work with the body. So they are often not instant, but over the long run they can be more effective and gentle on the body.

Women's Health Initiative or WHI is an organization concerned with issues relating to menopause. In the past, Hormone Replacement Therapy had become the accepted treatment to ease hot flashes. As the popularity of HRT increased, WHI conducted studies to uncover the risks. The clinical study concluded that the risk of having complications is heightened with HRT. Stroke, blood clots, breast cancer and heart disease are some of the related risks.

One natural cure for hot flashes is to change your diet. Some find that a low-fat diet helps. But if you find yourself losing excessive weight your menopause symptoms may worsen. Women the world afar all will enter menopause at some period during their lifetime, some sooner than later, and others later than sooner. Studies concerning red clover, hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms may have returned mixed results concerning effectiveness, but no adverse events have been reported after use and no health risks are associated with the use of the herb. It is after all a food source for other animals and was used historically by Native Americans as a medicinal herb and a food source.

The only problem is, menopausal and perimenopausal hot flashes tend to not only last longer and occur more frequently than the dubious uncomfortable situation we've all been in, and they also have some additional side effects that are even scarier if you're not sure what's happening to you.
