In addition to infection, pneumonia can also be caused by acidic chemicals breathe into the lungs or toxic smoke mouthful of air from a fire.

Pneumonia is a universal term that refers to an disease of the lungs, which can be caused by a variety of microorganisms, counting viruses, bacteria, fungi, and vermin.

Often pneumonia begin after an upper respiratory tract infection (an infection of the nose and throat). When this happens, symptoms of pneumonia begin after 2 or 3 days of a cold or tender throat.

Causes of Pneumonia

1.In most cases, the specific organism (such as bacteria or virus) cannot be identified even with testing.1 When an organism is recognized, it is usually the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae.2

2.Many types of bacteria may cause pneumonia. Pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumonia is sometimes mild and called "walking pneumonia."

3.Viruses, such as influenza A (the flu virus) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can cause pneumonia.

Symptoms of Pneumonia

1.A single episode of shaking chills followed by fever

2.Chest pain on the side of the infected lung. Severe abdominal pain sometimes occurs in people with pneumonia in the lower lobes of the lung

3.Cough, which may be dry at first, but eventually produces phlegm (sputum)

4.Nausea, vomiting, and muscle aches

5.Rapid breathing and heartbeat

6.Shortness of breath

The treatment will depend on what is causing your pneumonia and how severe it is.
Antibiotics

Antibiotics are commonly used for bacterial pneumonia. If your pneumonia is severe you may be given intravenous antibiotics (by infusion into a vein).

Viral pneumonia

Antibiotics aren’t effective against viruses so are given only in viral pneumonia if there is also a secondary bacterial infection (that is in addition to the viral infection).

Occasionally anti-viral drugs are used in treat viral pneumonia but mostly treatment is supportive, such as pain relief and oxygen.

Pain relief

Painkillers are often needed and will take away the chest pain so that you can cough and bring up secretions from your chest.

Oxygen

Oxygen therapy may be needed if you have a low concentration of oxygen in your blood. This is since the air spaces in your lungs have full with fluid and the oxygen you breathe is not receiving across into your bloodstream.

2.Garlic acts favorably in curing pneumonia. It can be added to the food prepared for the patient. Alternatively, garlic paste can also be applied over the chest. Apart from bringing down the body temperature, it tones down respiration and pulse.

3.Steep 15 gm sesame seeds in 250 ml water. Mix this infusion with 1 tablespoon each of honey and linseed. Also add a pinch of table salt and consume. This is very effective in treating pneumonia.

4.Carrot juice, when joint with beet and cucumber juices or spinach juice, is also helpful in curing pneumonia. In 300 ml carrot juice, combine in either 200 ml of spinach juice or 100 ml each of beet and cucumber juice.
