Indigestion, also known as upset stomach or dyspepsia, is distress or a burning sensation in the upper abdomen, often followed by nausea, abdominal bloating, belching, and sometimes vomiting. Indigestion is a pain or discomfort in your stomach after eating. Different people will have different reasons for this indigestion. For example, some people will only get the indigestion after eating a large meal. For others it may come on after eating rich or fatty foods. For others it may only occur with certain foods, such as bread or cheese. An apple might also be beneficial. An apple does not work for all people but it has been helping my dad's indigestion for 30 years now. Whenever you feel an episode coming on, eat at least a slice of a red apple. Drinking water after every meal or snack can also help. Water can flush off the stomach cavity and create a tight seal for the sphincter. You should be drinking at least 100 ounces of water daily. Basil tea: again, this is a herb with aromatic leaves and it can be prepared in no time at all. It is best taken before eating so it is basically a preventive measure for indigestion. The ways to prepare it is by pouring hot water on two or three basil leaves in a cup and covering the same cup, say with the saucer. After steeping for about ten minutes, add a little sweetener if you fancy. Make sure you have already fished out the leaves by the time you put in the sweetener. Each meal should be concluded with a little pineapple juice. This will avert burping and gas accumulation. Do not stop taking this drink even after your initial symptoms of indigestion are gone. Crush some curry leaves and extract the juice. Squeeze half a lemon to a glass of water. Add the curry leaf juice and a tsp honey to the water. Quickly drink it. Small cardamom, ginger, cloves and coriander grounded together relieve indigestion. Peppermints: because they are anti-spasmodic, peppermints are a perfect natural cure for that stressful gas in the digestive system. It works by relaxing the section of valve which lies in between the gullet and stomach. It does this by its active menthol content and the result is that trapped gas that would otherwise build to irritating levels gets an exit thereby curing indigestion. As a plus, it numbs the nerves causing spasms in the muscles. But watch the amount of intake of menthol as children under five can choke on menthol tea and those with hypertension can get a higher BP. One good Home Remedy for Indigestion is to put some lemon juice or cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it before the meal.
