Heating the water is a thermodynamic process using an energy source (Solar heating, gas or wetback hot water cylinders) to heat water above its initial temperature. This hot water is used for cooking, cleaning, bathing, and space heating. Water heating with solar energy is known as solar water heating or solar hot water. Water Heaters are systems that used heating source to raise the temperature of incoming cold water. This heated water is stored in water tank which is distributed on demand to showers, bathtubs, sinks and other water-using equipment in the home. Selecting a water heater is not so easy especially when you are not aware of the types/model and there benefits of hot water heating systems available in the market.

Types of Water Heaters are:

1.Storage tank water heaters
2.Tank-less water heaters
3.Integrated space heating systems
4.Solar water heaters

Storage tank water heaters heat and store water in a tank so that hot water is available to the home at any time where as water heaters without tanks do not have a storage tank. This system heats water only when it is needed. Integrated space/water heating systems are the systems which combine the household heating requirement with the household hot water needs. These systems save money on the total system installation. In this, a single boiler is used, requiring only one combustion burner and one vent. Solar water heaters are the most common water heaters using the sun's energy to heat water.
There are lots of things that must be considered when purchase a new water heater for your home. You should choose that system which not only provide enough hot water but also save money and energy efficiently. You can consider the following factors for selecting the best type and model of water heater for your home.

1.Fuel Type, availability and cost.
2.Size
3.Energy efficiency.
4.Cost

Water heaters need maintenance to perform proper functioning. There maintenance cost is not so expensive .You should check them every year and have them checked more thoroughly by an accredited installer every 3-5 years, or as specified by your installer.
