Need More Space In Your Self Storage Unit

By: John Moesier Home | Finance | Real Estate

At some point in your life, you may happen upon an occasion where you need a self storage solution. The reasons that people need self storage are virtually endless. It does not matter if you are moving, need a place to store your collectibles, going through a divorce, or building a new home, self storage is an excellent solution.
When your self storage unit finally arrives, the next task on the list is actually packing it with your belongings. If you approach this task haphazardly, then you will not make the most of your storage space and may end up frustrated that you do not have the space you require. This dilemma can be solved by just a bit of planning prior to even putting the first item in your self storage unit.
One of the first things that you will need to do before packing your storage container is to take inventory. Make a list of everything that needs to be packed in the unit. List all of the things that will need to be stored away in the unit. After you have listed everything, arrange the items on the list in the order that you will require them. It makes no sense to pack something that you will need immediately at the back of your self storage unit.
All of the items you can pack into boxes should be put into boxes. This will make it much easier to load and unload the items from your self storage container. Try and select boxes that are similar in size. Lots of books should not be packed into one large box. If you make this mistake, you will find that it is nearly impossible to move the box. Plus the box may also break. Pack books in smaller boxes that are easy to maneuver. Also, pack as much into the boxes as possible and then fill the empty space with either old bedding or newspapers to prevent collapse when the boxes are stacked.
If you have rented a larger self storage unit, it is helpful to leave some walking space between furniture and boxes. Doing this provides easier access to items in your self storage container when you need them. Also, when you are loading your self storage, make sure that boxes that container heavier items are on the bottom and boxes containing lighter items are on or near the top.
Keeping these tips in mind will ensure that you get the maximum usage out of your self storage unit. When you need to pack away your belongings for a while, self storage is an excellent way to keep them safe and secure. If you take the time to pack your self storage space wisely, you will make the most of your storage space and your experience will be much more pleasant.
