Nervous Passengers And Driving

By: David Williams 2 Home | Automotive

My boyfriend is a nervous passenger. However, he is not the only one. There are millions of people all over the United States who can't seem to ride comfortably in a vehicle without worrying about what other drivers are doing or that they will get into an accident. But if you are the passenger in someone else's vehicle and their driving is making you nervous, how do you react? Do you say something or just leave it alone and shut your eyes? How do you know when and if you are crossing the line into hurting that person's feelings?

There is a fine line, it seems, between being a nervous passenger versus being a back seat driver. The two are almost interchangeable at times. For example, I will sometimes have my boyfriend with me and we will go out to run errands. With him sitting in the front passenger seat of my car, I will be sitting at an intersection or a road waiting until it is safe to make a turn. However, when I try to bend my head forward to the right to check for oncoming traffic, I will find that his body is blocking mine as he is also bending forward to check for traffic. â€You're good on this side.†he will tell me. However, you should never take someone's word for it- even if it is someone you trust and love because as well intentioned as they might be, it can still cause you to get into an accident if you're not careful.

While I, myself, am not a nervous passenger ordinarily, I have certainly had my share of moments riding with people whose driving skills are absolutely atrocious. Unfortunately, I have discovered that most of these people emanate from my own family! Why, I have an upcoming trip that I will be making with my aunt by car in order to attend a family function. Since my aunt lives near me, it only made sense that we would carpool. However, I insisted that we take my car and that I drive. It is sad to say that my aunt's driving makes me so incredibly nervous that I sometimes have felt like I was having a panic attack while riding with her. From following people so closely that I am almost sure we are touching the back bumper of their car to speeding and surging in traffic, the nightmare continues to live on in my memories, making me shudder.

If you are a nervous passenger or if you simply don't want to hurt someone's feelings because you feel as if you would not be able to control your commentary while riding with them, then one option is to offer to drive your car as a sort of means to an end. I'm sure that the other person won't mind it unless of course, you are a bad driver as well!
