Though the actor himself does not feature in the film, he is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the film does well. Aamir Khan is full of activity as he goes about promoting his film. He recently unveiled the first look of the film and also held a promotional event for the dialogues. Peepli Live is a satire on the rampant farmers suicides that have rocked India in the recent years. The satirical depiction of epidemic of suicides by farmers under debt might be viewed as a case study in bad taste, but the warm-hearted populism of Peepli Live will probably win over anxious exhibitors. Peepli Live has a huge cast boasting of Omkar Das Manikpuri, Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Malaika Shenoy but its story focuses on everyman Natha (Omkar Das Manikpuri), a poor pot-smoking farmer in the village of Peepli who can't pay back his government loan and risks losing his land. The film's protagonist, Natha, is a poor farmer from Peepli village in the heart of rural India and is about to lose his plot of land due to an unpaid loan. He finds a solution to his problem in the government scheme that bails out the families of indebted farmers who have committed suicide. So as a means of survival Natha opts to die! With the impending local elections, and an encouraging brother who is happy to push him towards this unique "honor", Natha becomes a celebrity overnight with political bigwigs, high-ranking bureaucrats, local henchmen and the ever-zealous media making a beeline for the sleepy town of Peepli. The question on everyone's lips - "Will he or Won't he?" As the mania escalates what will be the fate of Natha? The film is directed by yet another debutant director Anusha Rizvi, who has also written the film. The film stars Naya Theatre company member Omkar Das Manikpuri, Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa and Malaika Shenoy, along with a number of newcomers. Peepli Live, distributed by UTV Motion Pictures is scheduled for release on August 13, 2010.
