New York City Travel: Top Five Places/things To See & Do When In New York City

There is so much to see and do when in New York City, that you could never hope to see it all or do it all, unless, provided you lived there or visited frequently. However, this top five list of the places and things to see and do when you are there should help to boil it down, and will allow you to truly experience something one-of-a-kind when in the Big Apple.

Times Square: Named as such after the New York Times newspaper located their base of operations here in 1924; this is the most popular destination and place to see in the entire state of New York. Times Square is a conglomerate of brand new, high rise commercial buildings and hundreds of restaurants, shops and historical sites. Enjoy the best that New York City travel has to offer by visiting this neon jungle, a sight that you will not soon forget!

Statue of Liberty: A gift from France to the United States, designed and created by Frenchman Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, don't miss this national monument and representation of modern freedom and democracy when in New York City. You can walk onto the observation deck and take in the sights of the sun setting on the harbor, and the amazing New York City skyline.

Central Park: Originally created in created in 1857 by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux, this is one of the largest city parks in the world, featuring plenty of lush, rolling hills, pristine landscapes, historical monuments, amphitheatres and much more. Central parks span dozens of miles throughout one of the largest and most populous cities in the world.

Metropolitan Museum of Art: Originally designed by Richard Morris Hunt in 1895, this is one of the largest and most magnificent museums in the world. A must-see place when you travel to New York City. With over a million square feet of interior space, there is plenty to explore. From the world famous paintings of art's greatest patrons, to the Egyptian ruins that has been imported and reconstructed from across the world. Don't miss the Asian arts and history, and of course, the gardens.

Greenwich Village: Home to some of the world's freest thinkers and radical reformists, ever since the early 1900s Greenwich Village has been a destination like no other. Today, the narrow streets host some of the best nightclubs and intimate live music venues in the world.
