Nfl- Jets Get To The Playoffs After Beating Bengals 37-0

The New York Jets confirmed their defense as the top in the league after their shutout performance against the Cincinnati Bengals. The New York team took a 37-0 victory, gaining a ticket to the playoffs as a wild card in the 17th and last week of the regular season in the NFL. The Jets seemed out of the playoffs two weeks ago after a loss at home against Atlanta, but with two subsequent victories in a row, they reached the postseason for the first time since 2006.

Thomas Jones opened the score with a one-yard touchdown during New York’s first offense, putting the score 7-0. The Bengals tried to react, but the Jets put up a rock-solid defense. At the end of the quarter, the Jets maintained their 7-point lead.

In the second quarter, Jay Feely added two field goals, one of 20 yards and another of 39, setting the score at 13-0. Minutes later, Brad Smith rushed 32-yards for yet another touchdown, while Jerricho Cotchery did the same in 6 yards. Halftime opened with a score of 27-0, in favor of the Jets.

The Bengals were frustrated not only in scoring but also in their passing and offensive running game. Despite everything, Cincinnati tried to fight, but New York was unyielding; proof came in Feely’s third field goal, going 40 yards, and then again in Jones’ 2-yard carry. With these, the Jets ended the game with an impressive score of 37-0.

Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez completed 8 of 16 passes for 63 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers and was replaced by Kellen Clemens late in the game. Then, wide receiver Brad Smith was restored as a runner and had 92 yards on four carries and one touchdown, while Thomas Jones rushed for 78 yards and had two touchdowns.

On the other hand, Bengals quarterback T. O'Sullivan had a poor game, completing only 3 of 8 passes for 31 yards.

At the conclusion of the game, the Jets ran for 257 yards in total, while the Bengals only managed 72 yards of total attack, all of which were completely destroyed by the Jets’ solid defense, led by coach Rex Ryan.

Ryan stated that his team was ready for the playoffs and hoped the players would be able to keep up the performance.

â€â€We’re happy but this is just a start. We have to take our show on the road. I think we’re right there. With that running game and this great defense, we can be very dangerous (in the playoffs). I believed in this football team from day one. You have to be able to run the ball and play defense and we can do both,’’ said Coach Ryan.

With this triumph, the Jets qualify as a wild card of the playoffs. Next Saturday they will start the NFL postseason games, by first visiting the Cincinnati Bengals at their Paul Brown Stadium.

The Jets lead the Bengals in their meetings with an all-time mark of 15 victories over seven losses, including playoffs. Moreover, during the last past eight games, the Jets have attained seven victories of those games.
