Nip Tuck Minus The Knife Cosmetic Laser Surgery, The Benefits And Top Tips On Getting The Most Out

By: Christine Ashley Home | Health-and-Fitness | Beauty

Up until recently, cosmetic laser surgery has been reserved for the affluent, celebrities and those in the public eye. But in this day and age, we are increasingly put under pressure to try and look our best. We exercise and eat healthily (well, try to!) and spend sizeable sums on cosmetics. Sometimes, however, this is just not enough. I dread to think the amount of times I have looked in the mirror, or down at my legs, and just wished I could be rid of those thread veins, wrinkles or sun spots, and I'm positive I'm not alone!

With the arrival of laser technology, a non-invasive treatment is now available for everyone, not just the A list. How does it work? Well, without getting too technical, cosmetic laser surgery uses a state of the art handheld laser to generate intense heat energy, altering the surface of the skin and enhancing the appearance. The high energy beam of light is directed very precisely to a specific area and can be effectively used to treat many conditions.

The treatments can permanently reduce unwanted hair, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, leg and facial veins and acne scars. The laser can also be used to reduce the appearance of skin discolourations such as rosacea, age or sun spots, shaving bumps, blood blisters and birthmarks.

I personally wouldn't consider going under the knife to make myself more aesthetically pleasing. Some people may say I am contradicting myself as I am happy to undergo cosmetic laser surgery. The reason I don't compare the two is because laser treatments are non-invasive, so I don't feel I've really messed around with my body as I would have if I had followed the traditional nip tuck route.

Compared to conventional surgery, cosmetic laser surgery treatments are quick, relatively painless with minimal health risks and can show dramatic results almost instantly with reduced recovery time.

We don't think twice about other beauty procedures such as going to the hairdresser, facials or having our legs waxed. Cosmetic laser surgery can provide solutions to help both ladies and men feel happier about themselves aesthetically, without having to go through major surgery, and most importantly at a fraction of the cost.

Cosmetic laser surgery seems to be relatively low profile in the UK, however, I wouldn't be surprised if before long, we're all popping into a clinic for a quick blast on the laser during our lunch hour.

Top Tips to get the most out of your Cosmetic Laser Surgery

Choose your clinic carefully
Even though the treatments are non-invasive, it is still wise to choose the clinic you use carefully and research the different options available. Make sure you ask to see patient testimonials and before and after photographs of previous clients so that you know what to expect from the treatment. For extra peace of mind, I would recommend using qualified Cosmetic Practitioners and practising GP's.

No obligation consultations
All reputable clinics will invite you for an initial consultation to assess your needs. Be sure to check that the clinic you choose offers you a free and no-obligation consultation, otherwise you are spending 100 plus before you have even decided if cosmetic laser surgery is for you.

The Cost
I will be honest, the treatments will cost you more than your average waxing treatment, however, think long term, they are a whole lot more affordable than traditional cosmetic surgery, and I am also convinced that the amount of money I would have spent on creams and tights over my life time would most definitely work out more than my laser treatment has cost.

The Treatment
The treatments are virtually painless, however, be prepared to experience a slight pricking sensation from the laser beam. Certain areas of the skin are more sensitive than others and an anaesthetic cream may be applied if necessary, don't be afraid to ask for this if you experience any discomfort during the procedure.

Aftercare
Following your laser treatment, you will be advised to apply high factor sunblock and chemical tanning creams should be avoided for a few weeks. All in all, not a high price to pay to look younger and radiant!

In my own experience I have dreaded the summer months due to extensive thread vein discolouration of the skin around my ankles. I have either had to wear tights or pop-socks (not very comfy in the hot weather) or camouflage the offending patches with thick creams.

The Cosmetic Laser Surgery Clinic that I visit in Somerset, is housed in a charming late Victorian building, far removed from any austere hospital clinic. The doctors and expert medical staff took time assessing my needs and explaining the procedures to be undertaken during my free initial consultation, and the relaxed atmosphere put me totally at ease whilst I was being treated.

Now, halfway through my course of cosmetic laser surgery, I am looking forward to its completion and a holiday in the sun with practically unblemished legs.
