If your PC has no sound, then it could be caused by a number of things. Follow the instructions below to fix no sound problems on Windows based computers. Checking the Volume Control Settings First, you need to make sure the sound is not muted and it is not turned down so low you cannot hear it when it plays. To check the volume: 1. Click Start 2. Click Control Panel 3. Click Hardware and Sound 4. Click Adjust system volume -Alternatively, you could double click the sound icon in your system windows tray located next to the clock. Check the volume for low sound or muted sound Verify the Speakers are not the Problem If you have some headphones, plug those in and test for sound. If you do not have headphones, plug the speakers into another computer to see if they work. If they do work elsewhere, then go on to the next step. A System Restore to Early Point If the speakers were working before and are not working now, then you may want to roll your computer back to one of its restore points. 1. Click Start 2. Choose All Programs 3. Click Accessories 4. Choose System Tools 5. Choose System Restore - this starts the Restore Wizard Follow the onscreen directions for the restore Rolling back your computer to a previous restore point will not cause you to lose your data. However, it will put your computer back to the point it was before things stopped working. If the problem is caused by a needed update, as soon as you update, the problem will occur again. If this is the case, go on to the next step. Reinstalling and Updating Sound Drivers Sometimes the drivers get corrupted and will need to be deleted and reinstalled. Other times, you will need to update your drivers to get them working again with your new computer settings. To delete and reinstall the old drivers Open Device Manager o Windows XP - Click Start -> Control Panel -> System ->Hardware ->Device Manager -> Sound, Video and Game Controllers o Windows Vista and Windows 7 - Click Start -> Type in "Device Manager" -> Press Enter In the Device Manager o Click on the sound device o Press the Delete Key o Click OK o Delete them all EXCEPT the Audio Codec and Legacy Audio Drivers Restart Your Computer Use the Driver and Application Recovery CD that came with your computer to reinstall the drivers To update sound drivers Download updated sound drivers from the manufacturer's website Open Device Manager Right click the sound device and Select Update Drivers Follow the onscreen instructions If you are having difficulty finding the right drivers or you do not know where to begin this process, then you can use driver update software. It will scan your computer and select the best updates for your driver automatically. The whole thing can be done in about two minutes and it will fix no sound caused by bad drivers automatically.
