Acute Pain-Good Pain...Chronic Pain-Bad Pain

What do I mean by "good pain", well that would be what's called acute pain. Acute pain is the pain you feel when you inadvertantly put your hand on a hot burner, or twist your ankle. I think you would have to agree this is "good pain" as it stops us from doing too much damage to our bodies.Acute pain is usually temporary and easily treatable.

Chronic pain or what I would call "bad pain" is the pain we experience from a disease condition. Chronic pain is pain that lasts at least six months, and all to often-no end in sight! Chronic pain may not respond well to medication and can rob you of your quality of life. Pain management becomes an integral part of treating chronic pain. We should come equiped with a switch that would enable us to "turn off" our chronic pain, but unfortunately no such switch exists.

Untold millions of people in this world suffer with chronic pain, and it only gets worse as we get older! This type of pain can affect any part of your body, common causes of chronic pain include back pain, joint pain, arthritis pain, fybromyalgia pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, foot pain, neck pain, and hip pain. The list of course goes on and on.

Chronic pain can result from diseases like gout, arthritis, migraine headaches, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, sciatica, and this list goes on and on as well!

Chronic pain can lead to fatigue, anxiety, frustration, depression, isolation, and can lower one's self esteem. Chronic pain not only affects the person suffering from it but his friends, family, coworkers, employer, vertually anyone he's associated with. Your chronic pain can dominate your waking thoughts, and make it difficult or even impossible to lead a productive life!
