Palm Beach Car Dealers Will Soon Offer The Prius Plug-in Hybrid

By: Russell Levron Home | Automotive | Cars

Toyota is hard at work preparing for the 2012 commercial launch of the Prius Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle (PHV). Much the same as the current Prius, the PHV obtains its power from a conventional gasoline-electric motor. What distinguishes the PHV is its lithium ion battery, which allows it to operate in all electric mode for greater distances and higher speeds. A number of PHV demonstration programs have been initiated with the intent to familiarize consumers with the car and to identify out any faults before it hits your Lake Worth Toyota Prius dealership.

Toyota has extended over 160 PHVs in the U.S. and over 600 worldwide to various demonstration partners to illustrate how the car will contribute to sustainable mobility while still accommodating to everyday life. Lending the vehicles will allow drivers to notice that the PHV’s extended drive range resolves the common anxiety that most other hybrids evoke. The PHV’s lithium ion battery pack is a contributor of the extended drive range and consists of three battery packs. Once one battery back is drained of its power, the car will transfer to the second battery pack until that is exhausted and then to the third. Once all three battery packs are drained, the PHV will revert back to operating like a regular Prius drawing power from a conventional gasoline-electric powertrain.

Another feature that will be unique to the PHV when it hits your Palm Beach car dealer is its quick charge technology and its ability to reach higher speeds. The battery can be fully recharged in less than 90 minutes which can be the sole power for the PHV for up to 13 miles at speeds in excess of 60 mpg. Such a long distance operating on electricity only will be a major contributor in the reduction of greenhouse gases and carbon emissions.

The PHV demonstration programs have also been initiated as a means to release the safest car as possible to your Palm Beach car dealer next year. Toyota will be able to receive feedback from drivers which will allow them to identify if the PHV presents any obstacles and work out any faults before it goes on sale for the general public. The PHV and the demonstration programs reinforce Toyota’s commitment to sustainable mobility and to safety.
