"2GB web space with 50GB traffic for $5.95 per month!" The above add is capable of making many small business owners feel cheated by their present web hosts. Now this is the way by which small business owners, who have taken small amount of space like 5, 10 or 25mb, calculate and feel that they are paying more: "If 2000MB (2GB) costs $5.95 per month, then 5MB should cost (5.95 x 5 / 2000) = $0.15 only! But my web host charges me $1! A 700% profit!! Oh...I am losing so much money!!" Thus now the question comes if a small business site shifts to the advertised web host, do he/she should get better value for his? Answer is no and explanation is as under- A small business owner normally needs 5,10,15 or 25 HTML pages. Now experts have their opinion that one should not have a page of more than 100K including images. The normal file size of a standard HTML page is around 10-15K. One should remember that, many of the images linked to one's pages are quite common. If one is having a 400x300 pixel image, the file size of that image should not exceed 30K. Buttons are normally between 3-5K. Now taking another example of 25-page web site having 25 HTML pages and each page having one big image of 400x300 pixel and having 25 buttons. So, the total space usage calculated is as under 25 HTMLs x 15K = 375K 25 400x300 pixel images x 30K = 750K 25 buttons x 5K = 125K In total: 1250K = 1.25MB Every one needs space for his/her mail. Now there are several questions, which often comes in, mind of a beginner like how many email accounts do one need? 5, 10, 25? How much space does one needs for allocating for each mailbox? Do one is getting large attachments? One can set his/her email software to delete mails from the server after downloading them to their computer. Thus allocating 1mb for each email account is sufficient, if one opts to check his/her mails every hour and keep the mail space clean for receiving further mails. So if one is using only one email account, he/she can use the entire free space for his/her email. Thus with the above example it can be concluded that if one goes for a 5MB space, it's quite sufficient. However, if one opts for a 2GB space and use only 5MB of it, then it is mere wastage of money as actually one is paying $5.99 for using 5MB space. Thus a loss of $4.99 every month$59.88 every year! Now another point comes of traffic i.e. what about Traffic, which is very huge with 50GB. Another question, which strikes, is does one need it? Considering the above example if one person visits all the pages, then the site will generate 1.25MB traffic. So if one is having 100 such visitors each day, then one only generates 3750MB or 3.5GB (approx) traffic for the whole month. So, proved again that in this case also one is paying more for the unused traffic. Concluding advice is one should check from his/her control panel, how much space and traffic he/she is consuming currently. If one is spending on unused space / traffic, then its time to browse the web for reliable hosts and find out a plan which fits as per requirements with best prices and features including reliability and moreover should SAVE MONEY.
