Permanent Weight Loss Vs. Fast Weight Loss

By: Rob Ferrall Home | Health-and-Fitness | Weight-Loss

The demand for fast weight loss products and diet plans is astounding -- people want to lose weight, and they want to lose it quickly. Now, there\'s nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight quickly, and it is certainly commendable that you realize that you are currently out of shape and want to get into better shape for whatever reason, but there are some significant differences between permanent weight loss and fast weight loss. Generally speaking, these two types of weight loss do not coincide and they cannot coexist -- we will attempt to explain why here.rnrnIn most cases, fast weight loss is due to the shedding of water weight, or excess water that you have stored up in your body. And, quite honestly, you can lose anywhere from 3 pounds up to 10 pounds fairly quickly by either restricting your diet, maintaining a specialized diet, or fasting -- or maybe a combination of all three. However, eliminating excess water from your system is not really true weight loss. Now, of course -- loss of water weight will make you weigh less, no doubt. But losing this type of weight is not something that is permanent, because once you stop the diet you\'re currently taking to lose the weight quickly, or stop your fasting -- the weight will return.rnrnPermanent weight loss is not something that can be achieved, at least generally, through gimmicky or fad diet means. If your goal is to lose a few pounds for an event that you have coming up in a few days, you may be able to lose three to five pounds, or maybe more, for your event -- but fast weight loss is short-term weight loss in the majority of cases.rnrnNow, something that should be said here, is that a short-term weight loss could act as a catalyst to help motivate you to lose more weight. It\'s common knowledge, and common sense as well -- if somebody is trying to lose weight, regardless of whether they are looking to lose weight quickly or just in general, once they start seeing results -- they get motivated and oftentimes start working harder toward their goals of losing weight. In cases such as these, any fast weight loss goals achieved could lead to permanent weight loss through increased exercise, or better adherence to a diet that promotes weight loss.rnrnAt the end of the day, however -- permanent weight loss and fast weight loss are just not the same things. This is not to say that losing weight quickly cannot lead to long-term weight loss, is just in the grand scheme of things -- it doesn\'t usually work out that way.
