Pki Smartcard Is A More Secure Way To Comunicate

By: Clint Jhonson Home | Internet-and-Business | Security

In order to comunicate by sending messages and to protect the integrity of these messages, Public Key Infrastructure system is the way to go. And for even more security, the best thing is PKI Smartcard, which is a specialized plastic card with integrated circuitry inside, which performs all the encryption and signing operations by itself, after being activated by a password.

The way to enrol in PKI Smartcard system is to purchase PKI certificate, from a Registration Authorithy, to provide its identity. The PKI Smartcard must be bought along with a device for the computer to interact with the smart card. A user can securely log on to a Windows Network, using his PKI Certificate, which is stored on his smartcard. Depending on the customer's needs, this certificate can also be used to register on websites or to sign e-mails.

If so desired it is possible to make the PKI Smartcard suitable for access to buildings or even for card payments. A special chip (without any contact) is implemented for this purpose. A passport photo (or in some cases even biometric features) of an employee can be included on the PKI Smartcard to be able to verify physical characteristics too.

Passwords, the primary tool for user authentication, can be easily stolen, lost, shared or cracked. Due to the need to manage multiple passwords and to ensure the effectiveness of passwords used, organizations have adopted stringent password policies. This has translated into more complex passwords and consequently, made them more difficult to remember. To cope, users are writing their passwords down, compromising the security they were meant to improve.

In order to enhance security and ensure safe information access, PKI Smartcard is the best solution. Because it is so small, it can easily be carried wherever you go, and the only thing that you need to purchase is PKI certificate. PKI Smartcard provides a robust and flexible framework for integration with many of today's leading security solutions, giving you a solution to all your strong authentication and password management needs.
