Plan Your Amsterdam Trip

By: seanm Home | Travel-and-Leisure | Vacation

For many travelers, a spontaneous Amsterdam excursion adds a sense of excitement to an already exciting trip. However, there are many good reasons to consider planning your excursions in Amsterdam before you leave home.

Is it time to start planning your vacation and you just have no idea where you want to go? May we suggest you consider visiting Amsterdam City Breaks ? Located in the Netherlands, Amsterdam is known the world over for its unique atmosphere and as the city where anything goes. Being a center for culture, this lively city can occupy you for a day or several weeks. You will be kept busy in this thriving city whether you seek a romantic getaway or a historical educational opportunity. You must, however, have a passport to visit Amsterdam so hurry to your local passport office or visit an online passport site but be sure to get the process underway.

Although Amsterdam does have its red light district, that should not distract from the beauty of the city for family vacation. Explore Amsterdam on foot, on a bike, or on a boat. People are friendly and the city is safe, and most people know English well, so do strike a conversation with the locals. For shopping, don't forget the Waterlloplein flea market and then let the fragrance of flowers lead you to the floating flower market, which is amazing.

Amsterdam is a canal town (somewhat like Venice). You will find the canals in the old town. Take a one or two hour cruise on the canals. There are several cruise companies that operate the tours, departing almost every hour, from the main canal down the hill near the train station. It is a great way to see some of the sights, in a cruise boat. These tours afford you the opportunity to see the older Amsterdam.

If your Amsterdam excursion is a long awaited vacation, knowing exactly what you'll do when you get there makes it all the more exciting. Planning on the fly can be fun, but knowing what you'll be doing makes it easy for you to wait and enjoy. In addition, if you are looking at your excursions in Amsterdam as an escape, you'll be able to spend time thinking about the concrete plans that you have set up. You'll be able to imagine your trip in greater detail, which will help distract you during the time before you leave.
