Plastic Travel Mugs Vs Stainless Steel Travel Mugs

By: Brain Bel Home | Business | Advertising

There are three categories of travel mugs: plastic travel mugs, stainless steel travel mugs and ceramic travel mugs. The most popular travel mugs are stainless steel and plastic travel mugs. Ceramic travel mugs have fewer products available and less demand on the market but still have some high quality mugs. Those looking for travel mugs will likely have to choose between stainless steel travel mugs and plastic travel mugs, so this article reviews the pros and cons of the two types of portable coffee drinking devises.

Stainless Steel Travel Mugs

Pros: Using stainless steel to make travel mugs is a recent occurrence as aluminum and plastic were the preferred traditional methods. Stainless steel became popular because of its superior insulation abilities and light-weight. Stainless steel is also very durable and has a longer shelf-life than plastic travel mugs. For customization purposes stainless steel allows not only custom printed logos but engraved logos as well.

Cons: Though this is not always the case, stainless steel travel mugs can be more expensive than plastic travel mugs. Stainless steel is considered a higher quality material than plastic so naturally it costs more. Stainless steel by itself often has a bland look to it, which is why most stainless steel travel mugs employ riged or curvaceous designs and sometimes even add plastic and rubber.

Plastic Travel Mugs

Pros: Though plastic is often thought to be a softer material, most travel mugs are made of a substance known as hard plastic that can take nearly as much punishment as any metal material. Plastic travel mugs are often more colorful than stainless steel mugs because plastic is easier to print color on. Plastic as a material is also relatively less expensive making plastic travel mugs less expensive than stainless steel travel mugs †in general.

Cons: Plastic travel mugs do not insulate as well as stainless steel travel mugs. Plastic travel mugs also cannot achieve the same metallic designs stainless steel travel mugs can that are considered by many to be aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, plastic travel mugs are more difficult to engrave on and very few items can have custom engraved logos.
