Polar Heart Rate Monitors Provide Essential Information

By: Alison Addy Home |

Getting the best information possible during the planning stages of an exercise program is essential for efficiency and health reasons. While many runners and cyclists, for example, will learn from experience and share with others, there are more direct ways to get this information. In a similar manner, getting required information during the actual activity is essential. That's where a Polar heart rate monitor comes in.

Beginning With Information

Some exercise runners and many competition runners depend on the Road & Hill Running Information Center for knowledge and information that will help them plan and execute their individual program. This central location for running information is included in the USA Track & Field (USATF) organization's operation. According to their Web site, the USATF is "the national governing body for track & field, long distance running and race walking in the United States." www.usatf.com

What is available at the information center that will make the runner's experience as good as possible? Running events are a key part of the listed information, as are routes that are suitable (even ideal) for running. The site lists most of the events that cover popular distances, ranging from about three miles to marathon distances. Runners can pick from a number of running routes, even allowing the individual to choose a terrain/surface they are most comfortable with.

With the software program at the running center, individuals can even map out a route, travel over that route and provide feedback through the Web site so other runners can benefit from the experience. If the individual wants a steep hill included in the session, with cool weather as the desired atmosphere, he or she can usually find a suitable route and location. Once the individual has obtained the most important route, terrain and weather conditions, and makes his or her way to the site, the information gathering process should not stop.

Information During Exercise

Information is at the heart of the entire process, as running events are often the basic activity for spreading the word about social issues, health conditions etc. There are also specific types of running, such as hill running, that are events in and of themselves. This type of running is an ideal venue for a Polar heart rate monitor, as hill running is meant to be strenuous and build endurance. Keeping track of the body's activity while in action can mean the difference between an efficient workout and one that is just a way to burn a few calories. Heart rate monitors can also be lifesavers, for those who aren't prepared for strenuous exercise but choose to do it anyway. If the individual gets the right information before a running session, then gets good information during the run, he or she has gone a long way toward safe and healthy running.
