Power inverters convert DC power to AC power. It is a small rectangular device that has a wire with a jack that you plug directly into your cigarette lighter socket of your vehicle or you can connect it also into your battery car. This allows you to run your electrical equipment when you are on your car or when there is an emergency black out. It comes in different models that vary in watts. The amount of wattage you will require depends on the devices that you'd like to use. Less than 300 watts: These are the inverters that you can plug into the cigarette lighter socket, these power inverters can handle small items such as a cell phone charger, ipod charger, smaller laptops, and portable dvd players. 300 watts: It is used for your typical household appliances, small to medium TVs, DVD player, older gaming systems, most computers, most of these connect via a 12-Volt plug. 600 watts: It is used for more powerful household appliances, large TVs, and power tools. Most inverters at this voltage level are connected directly to the battery and have three or more grounded outlets for powering several products at the same time. 1750 watts: It is used for heating/cooling household appliances, larger power tools, microwave ovens, coffee makers, toasters, and hair dryers. All of theses inverters are designed for direct connection to the battery network and can generally supply 1500 watts of continuous power. 3000 watts: This is a power inverter for serious inquiries only. With an output power generally rated at 2500 watts for continuous load, these inverters can power most all appliances and office equipment. For loads of this magnitude, special wiring and battery banks may be required. For your appliance's safety and longer lasting use, always remember to use a power inverter that is rated high enough for the devices you are running. Last but not the least, avoid adapters that would allow more outlets than the unit is designed to accommodate.
