Preventing Drowning In The Swimming Pool

By: AgnesC Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

Worldwide statistics show that drowning incidents in the swimming pools have risen in the recent years. This trend is due to increase in the development of more swimming pools in the domestic and public sectors. The number of the people who know swimming has also increased but yet many amateur swimmers continue the suit without proper swimming lessons and thus end up in disasters. Drowning is more common in the children and in teenagers who out of adventurous nature swim in deep waters.
To prevent drowning the most important thing is to learn swimming properly. It is the utmost duty of the parents to send their child to the best nearest swimming institute so that they get to learn the basics of the swimming and thus most of the accidents can be prevented. Also make sure you do not allow the toddlers or the children under four to enter into water without the supervision of an adult. An adult must accompany young children in water. If you have a swimming pool at home make sure your child never gets a chance to enter into it without you noticing him. Children may drown in the water silently, without any splashing or scream and you may not even come to know about it for hours.
Also buy the swimming jackets and air filled tubes for your children if they are too fond of swimming and have not completed their swimming lessons yet. Any negligence can make you repay a lot. So never be negligent about your children especially when they are in water. Always keep watching. If you can’t manage to be with them all the time, appoint any other person for your help. In case you have older children keep reminding them that swimming in deep water can be dangerous. They need to be careful while playing lest they incur a slip and fall in the water and fail to swim back.
Get education about water safety yourself and then educate your family about it too. You must h learning the basic resuscitation techniques, and equipment. If by accident anybody has drowned in the water. First thing is to go after him and get him out of the water. If the water is deep use a drain to empty the pool. Ask a friend to call an ambulance in the meanwhile. Once safely out of water lay him flat on the back and strike powerfully to force the water out of the mouth. If it’s a child hold his feet and hang him upside down now punch his back and belly to force water out of his body. Be gentle, so that you cause no injury to his vertebral column. If the person does not revive start CPR. Give him two mouth to mouth breaths, than place a firm fist at the middle of his sternum and apply thirty chest compressions each one and a half inches deep. In case of a child use two fingers, or a thumb for chest compressions, each inch deep. Continue the cycle until the patient is back to life or till the ambulance is at your door.
