Primary Colors Are The Most Highly Used Colors For Football Shirts

By: Soophott Lert Home | Recreation-and-Sports

Football shirts traditionally reflect the colors of the team that wears them. But in football the shirt is an opportunity to make your team stand out from the others, so the shirts tend to be creative expressions of a team's identity, or even their national pride. Some of the most highly used colors for football shirts are red, blue, yellow, green, and white. The way teams use these colors varies widely from stripes to blocks of color to simple highlights at the collar or on the sleeves.

Since football is a world sport, many teams design their football shirts to display the colors of their nation's flag. This tactic is really apparent during international competitions such as the FIFA World Cup. National teams find creative ways to incorporate flag colors and patterns into their football kits so that they are instantly recognizable, even from a distance. Fans seem to appreciate these nationally based designs as well, since it gives them a chance to show support for their favorite football team and for their nation all at once.

Of course, there are several football leagues that compete within separate nations as well, and the national colors wouldn't make sense for them. These teams have a little more flexibility with their use of colors, and they take full advantage of it. Football players need to be able to spot the other players on their team quickly, so bright colors that stand out against the green of the field are very popular. Bright yellows, reds, whites, and blues are highly used colors for football shirts because they catch the eye easily.

Goalies have traditionally worn a different color than the rest of the team. Originally football rules stated that a goalie must wear green, red, blue, or white, regardless of the team's colors. Today goalies are free to wear whatever color they desire, but it seems that the traditional green, red, blue, and white are still favored by many teams.

One of the more interesting uses of color in football shirts includes the use of stripes or blocks of color that alternate bright or dark colors. When you see an alternating striped shirt you expect one of the colors to be remarkably different from the other one. Football shirts break that fashion rule regularly. A football shirt may have large stripes or blocks of color and both colors will be equally bright or dark - like alternating blue and red stripes. These patterned shirts can boggle the eye at times, but they are definitely easy to spot against the green field of play.

Primary colors may be the most commonly used, but football shirts have far more variety than that. There are kits that feature light blues, deep maroons, oranges, and even pink. It is difficult to say that certain colors are more popular than others because football shirts come in such a wide variety of patterns and hues. When looked at over history, though, it is safe to say that in general the most highly used colors for football shirts have traditionally been red, blue, yellow, green and white.
