Product & Consumer Test Marketing On The Internet 101

Test marketing used to be done only by major corporations who would "test market' a product in limited regional area ahead of full blown product release and launch. The idea was to isolate variables and test in that specific geographic area for consumer acceptance as well as product concerns and upgrades or fixes needed. In Canada two areas filled the bill fully and thus were were chosen for isolated geographic area metropolitan product tests - London Ontario and Winnipeg Manitoba.

Yet now product testing is well within the reach of most internet marketers. You can run small size tests across a broad spectrum, easily and inexpensively. It may on your own website, a website of your making or even professionally with market leaders with established systems and audiences. Thus your test marketing instrument will be placed in contextual search results. It will appear in ad placements the right hand side of the web page or along a top banner. It's all contextual. Notices and announcements of the promotion are delivered contextually. That is if the promoted good or service is about the Superbowl it will be presented to surfers looking sports related events, products and activities with a priority and preference on search results involving the sport of football and footballing. Thus the soapbox is not in place for internet browsers on the hunt for search engine optimization or adword campaign companies and advert packages. How are you as an advertiser charged. With Pay-Per-Click promotions it by the amount of internet users who have clicked on your website ad - to be taken to your webspace. Hence the term pay per click. Its as simple as that. You are not charged for the flashings of your ad that no users take action and follow through on. Better yet your ad placements can be highly targeted by sophisticated systems - both geographically in specific areas , regions or cites , by time of calendar day or week , or by consumer demographics.

What is the point of this? For a small amount of cash you can run a full test of your idea or ideas. Better you have sophisticated results collected and tabulated for your evaluation of the whole campaign or product placement ideas.

Better to test out your marketing endeavors in a limited way rather than in a full blown, and embarrassing run.
