Lighting is an important part of home interiors especially because when the sun sets, it illuminates the inside of a home. There are many top brands in manufacturing and sale of lighting products and one of the top brands that have illuminated homes for more than 100 years is Progress Lighting. Progress lighting was founded in Philadelphia in 1906 by Frank Rosen but at that time it was known as Victory Lamp Company. At that time it was considered that Victory Lamp Company was the only shop producing gas mantles. In 1930, Victory Lamp Company was worth $1,000,000 but due to some bad investments it went bankrupt. In 1933, Frank Rosen found Progress Manufacturing Company, which started producing lighting equipment in the form of outdoor lanterns. The manufacturing unit was spread over 6,000 square feet and comprised of a staff of 12 people. In 1936, the son of Frank Rosen, Ruben P Rosen joined his father to assist in the lighting business and the manufacturing unit of the company was then increased to 12,000 square feet. Two years later in 1938, the manufacturing unit of Progress lighting was moved to Germantown and Masters Street and it was spread over 40,000 square feet. Progress lighting was shut down for 4 years from 1942 to 1946 due to World War II. In 1950, the company already popular for various types of lighting products ventured into fans and started the Airsweep fan production. Over the last 100 years Progress lighting has moved from one dimension to another creating some extra-ordinary lighting for homes. They have an entire catalogue for lighting that focuses on different parts of a home like the living room, dining room, kitchen, bath, foyers & halls, and even outdoor lighting. The company has spent a lot of time and effort in creating lighting that not only serves the basic purpose of illuminating your home but also for enhancing the overall room ambiance, accentuating artwork, dramatizing wall textures and mainly making your home look beautiful. Progress lighting offers three sub-categories of lighting, which are basic or general lighting, accent lighting, and task lighting. General lighting mostly comprises of recessed lighting where the light source is mostly concealed. This includes decorative fluorescent fixtures and close-to-ceiling fixtures that can illuminate the entire living room very well and also save energy. Accent lighting on the other hand includes recessed lighting or track fixtures that can accentuate the wall colors and highlight everything in a room in a subtle manner so that the entire effect is stunning. Task lighting is mostly used in reading rooms, library and other parts of the home where you need more light.
