Protect Your Productivity After Setting New Goals

By: Helen Raptoplous Home | Business

Statistics show that just a few weeks after setting new goals, most people will "fall off the wagon" and the glow and the excitement of the new goals will fade and diminish. This is a great time to check in with yourself because statistics say that in just a couple of weeks about 85% of the people will fall out of the "New Goals" love bubble and lose momentum and focus. This is the time that most people stop being productive with their new goals. Not you, right? Here is what to look for and put a stop to before it is too late.

It's very easy to lose focus because as thrilling as it may be to plan and set goals, the actual work is a lot less exciting. Good intentions only get you started (if that) and once you start you have to work hard to keep up the effort. It is just easier to do things as they have always been done then it is to stay on top of the new things you want to do. It is really simple and it's a very clear concept. If you want this particular season to be better then the last, then you will have to make the effort and endure the hard work for as long as it takes to make your new habit into an old habit. If you feel yourself falling back on what is easier to do, catch yourself and stop.

Distractions are everywhere in our daily lives. Those distractions are always going to be there, wearing many different hats. Think of these distractions as only a test. You can pass this test by learning to balance what comes your way and then learn to set boundaries and hold fast to them. If you have set aside time to work on a project that is a big part of the changes you want to make, then you'll want to schedule out the blocks of time that it will take for you to complete that project. Those blocks of time should be considered sacred and nothing should get in the way for them to remain securely fixed into your schedule.

It's not uncommon for your friends or even your loved ones to sabotage your progress because they don't understand why you are working so hard to change things...after all, aren't you just fine and loveable just the way you are. This is your comfort zone speaking (or someone else's comfort zone) and telling you that you are safe if you stay right where you are and that if your step over that fine line you could get hurt or disappointed or uncomfortable. Tell that voice, or that well meaning friend or family member that you have this under control and you are doing this because you want to and because you need to! Then go prove it!

Your newly-set goals will take you far if you keep your focus, don't fall for what is easier to do, set boundaries that help you deal with the distractions that life will undoubtedly throw at you and if you are willing to go through some rough periods of feeling uncomfortable. Seems like a lot, huh? Well maybe it is, but how badly do you want to reach your goals? You made these new decisions and set these new goals with high hopes, and this was exciting, remember? Those goals are absolutely possible if you just make a small effort each and every day to be a little more productive. Every day, remind yourself where you want to be, and why you want what you want!
