Protect Yourself From Sleep Apnea Now

Sleep apnea can lead to heart conditions that can be deadly. This sleep disorder is related to your overall dental health as well. According to a dentist in Garden Grove, sleep apnea, an excessive daytime fatigue, is a symptom that is usually manifested during nighttime sleep through constant cessation or pauses in breathing that lasts for more than ten seconds. This problem must be treated or else it will alter the heart's rhythms and will reduce the oxygenation to the brain. Sleep apnea may also lead to a deadly form of congestive heart failure if it is not prevented. Millions of people are affected by sleep apnea. Dental Garden Grove health specialists said the symptoms of sleep apnea include headaches, insomnia, nasal congestion, daytime fatigue and snoring. Sleep apnea manifests itself while a person is sleeping. Snoring, which is a normal habit, is a primary symptom of this problem.

According to them, the periods of stopped breathing of patients during the night leads the body to respond due to lack of oxygen. Sleep apnea will have a big effect on the general health of a person because it causes fatigue and other side effects. Genetics can be a cause of sleep apnea and other causes range from behavioral and physical aspect of the patient.

Some other sleep apnea causes include:
"hyperthyroidism
"smoking and drinking alcohol
"abnormalities of the immune system
"high blood pressure
"large tonsils
"dry mouth
"sore throat
"restlessness
"excess weight
"choking or gasping during sleep

There are also different forms of sleep apnea, and according to the studies of a dentist in Anaheim, there are about three forms. Obstructive sleep apnea is likely to develop to older people and men. Central sleep apnea is due to the neurological problem of a person, and this requires medical intervention. Last is the complex sleep apnea or the mixed sleep apnea which is a combination of both obstructive and complex apnea.

Dental Westminster health specialists said there are different ways to treat sleep apnea. There are treatment options that a person suffering from sleep apnea can use to prevent a damage to that's person's dental health. Dental specialists offer a CPAP device (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure device) which is a popular treatment device that is worn during sleep. Dentists may also prescribe oral appliance therapy which is also an appliance or a mouthpiece for treating sleep apnea. Treatment options for sleep apnea need not be expensive since it mostly suggests a change in a person's lifestyle to help prevent this sleeping disorder. Weight loss and nighttime position changes, avoiding alcohol and smoking are just some of the treatment options that may change your lifestyle.
