Protecting Trees With Bird Netting

By: Ethen Smith Home | Self-Improvement

If there is a problem with birds, there must probably be many bird proof solutions. Some of the most popular include plastic animals, scarecrows, wind chimes, or highly reflective tape. All of these things can do a great job of reducing bird problems.

Apparently, birds have a natural tendency to get bolder as time goes by. While at first the scarecrow scares them senseless, now outside they can be seen sitting on his shoulder and munching on fruits, if any, from the tree. People love having birds around their yard. They designate a tree specifically for allowing birds to eat off of. But it seems that birds can't be content with what they're given. They always feel the need to go over to other trees when there is a tree just for them that doesn't have any scary things around it.

There are many gardening stores marketing a type of bird netting. Bird netting is basically a bird proof giant net that is thrown over the entire tree. The holes are about one half of an inch wide. Though it is quite a hassle to install, but it definitely works after that. Thereafter there are no more problems with birds taking fruits from the tree. To some extent, birds get caught in the bird netting and choked to death.

For a while one feels too guilty to prevent the birds from eating any more in spite of taking down the scarecrow. The fabric store sells a material called â€tulle". It is very fine netting with holes too small for any bird to fit its beak or head into. While it is easy to find, it is also extremely cheap. Buying enough to cover one tree ended up costing less than half of what it cost for the lethal bird netting. Tulle is a much safer and cheaper bird proof alternative to bird netting, and if there are any problems with birds, it should be put on at least one tree. Sharing with birds is an essential part of being a good gardener.

Bird repellent gel does come with some minor risks, but if adhered to all of the literature there should be no problem with this product. The active ingredients in this product is polybutene, which is a petrol chemical and is not a DOT regulated product. Bird repellent gel can be a skin irritant, with no lasting health hazards. It's listed as hazard Polymerization. It is advised to wear safety bird proof goggles and gloves when handling bird repellent gel, and always wash hands after the application of this and other hazardous products.

Birds of all sorts are destroying some of our most prized possessions. They can cause damage to our gardens, and become a pain in parking lots. It's not at all attractive to find homes ledges, sills, rafters, and many more of the indoor and outdoor locations destroyed by birds. Bird repellent gel makes for a sticky and slimy bird proof surface that's uncomfortable for birds. They learn over time and will not return to the location.
