A federal complaint should be filed first at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). There are likewise state and local agencies where you can file a complaint. In some cases, these agencies will accept your claim and file the discrimination case for you. If there is no action within a fixed period of time, or refuses to make any action, a private lawsuit may then be filed.
