No sooner have the Christmas decorations in the local high street come down and the winter themed window displays disappeared along with the snow on the ground than we all start to busy ourselves for another big occasion. The Santas and snowmen in card shops are replaced by cherubs and love hearts and the winter coats in your local department store make way for sexy lingerie. It can mean only one thing; Valentines Day is on the horizon. Traditionally Valentine's Day is a time for romance and love. On February 14th we like to show the one we care about how much they mean to us with gifts of chocolate, perfume or champagne. But what if things are not as certain as they once were? What if there have been disagreements, a falling out? Well that's all the more reason to wrap yourself up in the spirit of the day and sort out those problems before it's too late and Valentine breaks are a great way to do it. Valentine's Day isn't just for teenagers or single people who want to send a message to someone they are attracted to, hoping it will be the start of something special. Valentine's Day is also for people who are married or in long term relationships. In fact it's more important to that group of people as it's an opportunity, an excuse even, to send out a message that you might not ordinarily know how to or when to. When else in the year are you actively encouraged to spend money on a Valentine break? Take advantage of it! Coming out of the Christmas period and into the New Year can, for some, be a tough, even debilitating time. It can leave people feeling low and depressed and can put relationships and marriages under extra stress, causing problems and leading to break-ups if not recognised and dealt with. Add children into the equation and it's easy to see why it's too much for some people. So Valentine's Day should be looked on as an opportunity to heal old wounds, re-establish relationships and make a commitment to the future. Luxury gift items like jewellery and champagne are all very well and they serve a purpose but the best way to really send out the right message is with a Valentine's break. We all get wrapped up in the day to day routine of work. Sometimes we use it as an excuse to avoid doing things or making the decisions that we should. A Valentine's break offers the opportunity to spend some time with the one you care about without all that hassle and without the pressure of having to do the mundane chores and tasks that often mount up to the point where you can see nothing else but the endless list of things to be done. Most hotels and restaurants offer deals on Valentines breaks so no matter what you are looking for their will be a deal out there for you. Good food, champagne, entertainment and a good setting are all things that you should consider when booking your break. There are the obvious romantic destinations of course; Paris, Venice or New York, but your break can be just as successful in a well chosen hotel in the Lake District or the West Country. If there is a place that is special to the two of you; somewhere you met, somewhere you've always said you'd go then consider using that as the platform on which to base your big weekend. The more thought you put into your Valentine's break the more you will get from it; that is the point after all.
