Qualities Of A Good Flute Teacher

By: Pamelina Siow Home | Arts-and-Entertainment

Once you have decided to learn the flute, the task of finding the right teacher to teach you, deserves serious consideration.

Your future singapore flute teacher will not only help you with understanding the instrument and perfecting your skills, he will also form you as a musician, so when you look for a flute teacher, you need to think of some more things than just his musical skills.

First and foremost, you need to decide how seriously you want to learn the flute. Are you going to become a professional musician or do you just want to play some tunes at home once a week?

In both cases you will need to make sure that you have enough time for singapore flute lessons, because mastering a musical instrument, even at a basic level, will take lot of time and some money. Actually in some cases you might even not need a teacher.

If you have musical background, then you have the option of teaching yourself with the aid of just a manual. However, if you decide that you want to be a professional flute player, have the time and money to pursue it, then it's time to think about the next step - selecting the flute teacher in singapore.

As for some first practical advice, before you choose a singapore flute teacher roam the local message boards, especially music oriented ones, for information. Maybe you will find some help and some contacts there. Eventually you might find out that there is no flute teacher nearby (for example if you live in a small town). You might reconsider your desire to hire a teacher or even to learn the flute with this new information.

Once you have a list of candidates, there is still another matter that you have to decide on that concerns your future plans: is this teacher a flute specialist or a multi-instrument specialist?

At this point, it will be difficult to say who will be the better teacher. Unless you have decided whether you want to learn just the flute or if you intend to learn other instruments.

If you are focused on flute only choose a flute-only specialist, if flute is just a part of your musical education - choose a wide specialist. This specialist also might be more helpful if you plan to play in an orchestra with a band.

A multi-instrumentalist is able to see the flute from the side of the other instruments and might give you some tips that a flute-only specialist just doesn't know.

Also in both cases you need to make sure that your future teacher is professional in both playing the flute and in teaching to play a flute. There are actually thousands of great musicians that just don't have the skill to be a teacher, so choosing the best local flute player as a teacher, might be a wrong decision.

As you see in selecting a flute teacher there are two most important things: to determine what you expect to achieve from your flute lessons and to ensure that the teacher has the know-how and teaching experience necessary to teach you.
