Rackmount Powerstrip has come a long way in the last few years. Most rackmount powerstrips were 15 amp until more blade servers were put into a server rack than ever before. Due to smaller "U" heights network techs could put in two to three times more servers in a server rack than they had previously. This now increased the electrical demands in each rack.The rackmount powerstrips had to be updated to handle more of this electrical load. In addition, environmental factors such as heat and humidity became more important due to the tremendous computer power in one single server rack. Anything that could cause server failure became a high priority to diagnose.One of the ways to address the increased electrical load was to make the rackmount powerstrip compatible with 20 and 30 amp applications. Interesting enough, many people began to call the rackmount powerstrip a PDU or power distribution unit. In addition to rackmount, many vertical powestrip models were enhanced to be compatible with 20 and 30 amp applications. Enhancements have made to both the rackmount powerstrip and vertical powerstrips that allow a tech to access it remotely even to the point of turning individual receptacles on or off for specific applications. Newer features include the ability to monitor amps, volts, heat, humidity and other important data at the server rack level or remotely. Rackmount powerstrip was originally named as RacSense and the new name for rackmount powerstrip is Geist. RacSense rackmount powerstrip provides best premium off the shelf power distribution unit.
