Railway Booking Online

By: steily william Home | Travel-and-Leisure | Vacation

Railway transportation has been a part and parcel of many a domestic traveler’s lives. Not all the towns and cities of India are connected by flights; but Indian Railways touches almost every town. The convenience associated with traveling by Indian Railways is thus noteworthy. You can choose to get the railway booking done for any of the general to sleeper to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd AC classes. It all depends on the distance covered and expediency. Almost all trains of the Indian Railways witness cent percent occupancy of the seats.

There are travel agents for Indian Railways facilitating railway booking without standing in a queue at the railway ticket counter in the station premises. There are also dedicated travel portals that sell train tickets to any chosen destination covered by Indian Railways. All you need to do is enter the information and then get the railway booking done. Of course, there is no guarantee of a confirmation of seats if you go for current bookings. Opt for advanced bookings only. Many travel portals not only sell train tickets but also facilitate travelers to get hotel reservations done, buy flights tickets, and avail other travel related services.

Buying train tickets is thus made a hassle free and less time consuming affair at travel portals. You may not get discounts in railway booking as is offered in flights tickets; but there are counted few portals that provide offers along with the train tickets.

Steered by the Ministry of Railways of the Government of India, Indian Railways happens to have the world's fourth largest railway network covering over 64,015 kilometres (39,777 mi) of track and having 6,909 stations. The country with the largest railway network is the United States followed by Russia and China. Over 20 million passengers travel by Indian Railways everyday and 2 million tons of freight are carried daily. Indian Railways also holds an important place in the world map; it is one of the world's largest commercial or utility employers. Over 1.6 million employees are employed here; it owns over 50,000 coaches, 200,000 (freight) wagons, and 8,000 locomotives.
