Raising Kids Right: Busting Heart-unhealthy Habits

By: Sandip Home | Health-and-Fitness | Aerobics-Cardio

Childhood obesity rates are higher than ever in the United States. Learning poor eating habits from their parents, today's children are eating high-fat foods with minimal fruits and vegetables. They're also spending less time outdoors and more time playing video games and watching movies †a combination that leads to weight issues at a much younger age.

On top of the self-esteem issues overweight youth face, a high saturated fat and cholesterol intake means that kids are at a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and other health problems later in life. Though it may be frightening to parents to learn that their children are among the first generation estimated not to outlive their parents, these startling numbers can be changed with healthy diet and exercise choices. Changing kids' habits starts with changing the habits of the people who taught them in the first place: their parents.

It's important for parents to influence their children in a positive way by spending lots of time outdoors doing physical activities and eating a healthy diet rich in whole foods. Eat minimal desserts and make activities fun by spending time as a family. This teaches children a healthy respect for food and builds a strong family foundation. Teach children the dangers of smoking and high alcohol consumption, which also raises risk for heart disease and stroke later in life.

It's important to begin making these changes as early as possible. New studies have shown that making lifestyle changes in high-risk children can actually reduce risk later in life †an exciting finding for families with a family history of heart disease or stroke who worry about their children contracting the disease later in life. The cardiology centers offer advanced diagnostic testing like lipid profiles and cardiac MRI screenings †allowing patients to know their heart disease risk and make the necessary changes for their families. Surgical center, perform minimally invasive cardiac surgery and heart valve replacement surgery. Heart valve replacement surgery cost and heart valve replacement surgery recovery times continue to be top attraction of this medical center for American families. Keeping kids healthy in today's environment is no easy task, but it helps to build a strong family environment of shared healthy habits.
