Reasons Why We Need The Help Of An Elder Care Specialist

By: debedwards Home | Home-and-Family | Elderly-Care

We cannot change the fact that all of us will have to face old age and being weak, thus needing the help of those who are younger and much stronger. But in spite of knowing this, have we asked ourselves if we are really prepared and ready for this predicament? As early as now, it is important to assess and evaluate the things that we have to do to lessen the burden of being old, and an elder care specialist or also known as geriatric care manager would be a big help to enlighten us regarding these matters.

A geriatric manager is a professional with expertise on dealing and helping older people and their families to understand and familiarize themselves with long term care arrangements. Care managers usually have a Bachelor’s degree or pertinent experience in gerontology, nursing, social work, or counseling.

One of the basic duties of a care manager is to aid an adult who needs to receive long term care services with the requirements and inquiries that he needs to fulfill in order to own one. They may also choose, monitor, and observe the in-home health workers that are assigned to take care of their clients, and suggest other options or alternatives in order to get better services.

An elder care specialist or geriatric care manager also acts as a liaison or coordinator between the insured person and his family and has the responsibility to inform his loved ones of whatever concerns that he might have.

If you try to look at it, geriatric care managers lessen the burden of the families in making sure that their older family member gets the best and highest quality of long term care services and facilities that he needs in order to improve his condition. The other family members are spared of the difficulties of researching and inquiring for nursing homes and other assisted-living facilities that may consume a lot of their time.

Care managers have an authority to refer or suggest an in-home care agency or adult day care facility that they think would be best for their client. Aside from this, they are well-trained and are fully aware of the conditions and other requirements of long term care facilities, so they can inform their clients beforehand of the documents that they need to complete.

To date, almost each state in the country has geriatric care managers that are willing and readily available to help those who need their advices and insights. Thy can do or finish in two hours the things that other people without care managers complete in two weeks. Plus, the payment for their services is a lot cheaper than the money that a family member would spend in trying to contact or check if their older loved one is safe and in good condition.

In order for an elder care specialist or care manager to be certified and get such designation, he must have knowledge in the field of estate and trust planning, retirement planning, and other fields that has something to do with the financial condition of the elders. He must also passed and completed the tests required by the National Society of Accountants and must have at least three years of experience in accounting or taxation.
