There are lots of people today who have experienced an anxiety attack and so are then quickly able to recognize the physical signs of an anxiety attack in the future. The main symptoms associated with such attacks are heavy breathing, pains to the chest, the bodies extremities become numb and their body shakes uncontrollably. Although quite a few people will suffer all the symptoms we have mentioend, there are plenty of others when an attack takes place will only suffer from one or two of them. Someone who is suffering a panic attack may feel that they are having a heart attack or nervous breakdown. Because of this, some people call an ambulance and have themselves taken to a hospital. While this is not always necessary, it certainly can't hurt to have the care of a professional to help you through the attack. If you suffer from severe anxiety, however, you may have already discovered some other ways to alleviate the symptoms. It is believed that a full anxiety attack is related to the 'fight or flight' survival response found in all members of the animal kingdom, including humans. This response is thought to have been responsible for the continued survival of the human race, as it includes a rush of adrenaline, ultra sensitivity to surroundings, and a general aggressiveness. An anxiety attack occurs when this instinctual response is triggered without any obvious cause. There have been studies carried out in relation to what would happen if a person suffers from repeated anxiety attacks. There is clear evidence to show that these people are at a much higher risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke at some time in the future. Yet if someone only suffers from one attack, and there is no history of anxiety disorder then the chances of damage being caused to their heart or them suffering any other health effects from it are very unlikely. It is not clear, however if the increased risk posed to regular sufferers is caused by the attacks or is merely related to them. Some doctors even argue that the medications prescribed for anxiety disorder put people at risk of cardiovascular events. Either way, a panic attack is a clear sign that something is not well, and the problem must be dealt with, not the symptoms. Dealing with panic attacks is not always easy. Doctors can treat the symptoms, but often the underlying cause of the attack is within the person themselves. Different types of therapy exist to seek out and deal with whatever is causing the undue stress on a person's system. Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most effective methods, using the person's own willpower to alter reactions to certain stressful situations. Quite a few people will use deep breathing exercises or other kinds of relaxation techniques for helping to bring the physical symptoms of an anxiety attack under control. Along with these exercises and techniques they may also under take massage or aromatherapy and some people will use them in conjunction with acupuncture treatment. But no matter what any one else thinks, it is important that when treating the physical symptoms associated with these kinds of attacks is not just a case of a person trying to think more positively. Anxiety is a real medical condition and must be treated as such. Hopefully, with careful attention, anyone can beat the crippling effects of anxiety.
