Like any car, your computer also needs regular maintenance. Your computer regular maintenance should include updating your software, keeping your antivirus up to date and checking for spy ware. This article aims to show you why you need to it and simple guidelines that you can follow when maintaining your computer.

Listed below are things that you should first do before you mark your calendar for maintaining your computer. These tasks will help you improve your computer's security so be sure not to skip this part of your ongoing maintenance.
1.Always remember to sign up for software update via e-mail notification. Most of the software companies today will send you an e-mail whenever there is available update with their software. Updating your antivirus software is important because it serves as your first line of defense from malware.
2.Register your software. If you bought antivirus software and there’s a registration forms included in the package then send them in. Remember to register your software whatever it may be because that’s another way for software manufacturer to reach you when new updates are available.
3.Download and install software updates immediately. When you get notification that there’s an update for your software then immediately download the patch and install it.

On the other hand, here’s a short list on how you can keep your files safe and clean. Make these tasks part of your regular maintenance schedule.
1.Update your software - This will make sure that your software can perform in its optimum condition.
2.Backup your files †You know that whatever happens to your computer you will always have a safe copy of your important files somewhere. In case your original file got lost, damaged or corrupted you know that you still have a copy of that file that you can use.
3.Use antivirus software and keep it updated. Use your antivirus scan tool regularly to protect, diagnose and block potential computer viruses and worms. There are also antivirus software today that you can schedule an automatic scan of your computer anytime you want.
4.Change your passwords regularly but remember to keep track of your passwords. Using the same password in all your accounts can increases the chances that someone will know or break your password.

Computer maintenance is easy to do especially if you keep track of what you are doing with your computer. Create a regular "appointment" with your computer and create notification on your phone, calendar or email. Remember that when you do computer maintenance you are not only improving the performance of your computer but you are also protecting your personal information.
