Therefore, you need to understand the demands of your website or applications before signing up for a dedicated server. If you are unsure, sign up for a plan that allows you to upgrade later on. If you have the budget, you may even wish to consider signing up for managed hosting. For both VPS and dedicated hosting, you get a lot of freedom when it comes to system configuration. To put this in another way, you can act as if you own the server, and configure it anyway you like. You can't do this in a shared hosting environment. This benefit comes in handy especially when you have custom built software that require you to tweak the server settings.
