At times when you launch MS Office Outlook 2003 or MS Office Outlook 2007, an error message given below occurs on your screen: â€The file drive:\path\file name.pst could not be found.†When you click OK in the error message, Outlook exhibits the Create/Open Personal Folders file dialog box. The occurrence of this error message is a consequence when Outlook delivers email messages to a personal folder (.PST) file and if one of the following situations is true: The PST file where Outlook delivers the email messages is located on the server which is unavailable PST file where Outlook has delivered the email message is corrupt and Outlook is not able to locate the file. In order to resolve this issue of Outlook, you can use one of the following methods as per suiting your situation: 1.Open a New Personal Folders (PST) File- If you wish to open a new PST file, type a name for the new file in the Create/Open Personal Folders File dialog box, and then click Open. 2.PST File is located on a Network Server- PST files located on Network drives are not supported. PST files are file-access-driven method of message storage which means that computer uses specific file access commands to read and write data in the file. This is the reason why it is not efficient on WAN or LAN as WAN/LAN links use network-access-driven methods. 3.PST file has corrupt- If you have doubt that your PST file has corrupt, then you can easily recover the file using the Inbox repair tool. To do so, follow the steps given below: a.Click on Start, point to Search and click Files or Folders b.Type scanpst.exe in the Search box for files or folders named box and then click Search Now c.Double-click on the scanpst.exe file from the enlisted files d.Now type the name of PST file that you wish to repair and click Browse to locate the PST file e.Click Start If you receive an error message, then you have the option to backup the file before you try to repair outlook pst. The log file for repair outlook pst process has a similar name as the .PST file with a .log file extension. Now, if you repair a file with a name Mailbox.pst, the log file is named Mailbox.log Until or unless you are using either Microsoft Exchange Server or Microsoft Mail services, Outlook 2003 will need a PST file for storage of your email messages, calendar, contacts and tasks. However, when Outlook 2003 is unable to find a PST file, the only other folder that you can open are the file system folders, with the use of Outlook 2003 as a document explorer.
