Replacement Vinyl Siding: A Great Way To Improve Your Home!

By: Paragonremodeling Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

If you are like me, from a small town right outside Northern Virginia, where Ruby Tuesday’s is the most happening place on a Friday night, then that protective layer of tin man (also known as siding) got destroyed in the recent wrath unleashed by mother nature.

I woke up one morning and realized that now is a good time to finally switch to vinyl sidingâ€something I have been putting off for years. I went by to the local home improvement store trying to find siding, but from doing much research, realized my best bet was to go with a contractor who specialized in vinyl siding. I sat through the measurements, the presentations and all the water tests you could imagine. After a week of non stop estimates, I settled on a company I found out of Qualified Remodeling magazine. I got a great price, felt comfortable with my project manager and was very satisfied with the end result.
I thought I would share my new found knowledge of siding with the world. This is only my point of view, but take my information for what it’s worth and enjoyâ€

What to Look for in Vinyl Siding:

- Firstly, you need to make sure the vinyl is 100% virgin vinyl.

- There are tons of styles for siding. Be sure to check with your Home Owner Associations for any requirements they have.

- Definitely consider investing in siding that has a built-in foam back This generally offers much more insulation than using a plain piece of siding.

- Make sure the foam back also has anti-termite fibers. Lose the anxiety of having potential termite damage.

- Energy efficient siding should have an R value of between 3-5. If your siding has that R Value, you will notice some energy savings every month when you get your utility bills.

- Definitely get all your wood capped with PVC as well. Your trim work will really accentuate the siding and you’ll never have to worry about rotted wood again (I had a lot).

So whether or not you have hail or other kind of weather damage to your house, getting new siding installed is definitely a great way to improve energy efficiency, the appearance of your home and of course help increase the value of your property. With energy costs on the rise and construction rates falling, now is a great time to get work done to your house.
