Interior design is a process of applying creative and technical solutions into a specific structure in order to achieve a desired environment. Since interior design is basically dependent on a desired environment, the quality of life, and the culture of the people occupying the environment are important considerations. Some of the objectives of interior designing are enhancing the quality of life of the occupants, and making the environment aesthetically attractive. With these, interior design incorporates other important disciplines and processes to achieve a working, functional, and sustainable design. These designs can be directed to homes, offices, and commercial spaces. Like any design process, interior design starts with the establishment of the idea or the concept. As soon as the concept is established, it is easier to research and integrate knowledge and creativity into the design. However, there are some basic things that designers should keep note of. Although there is no limit to the creativity of the designers, it is vital to observe the principles of a good design. These principles act as the basis of the creation of successful visual compositions. Space. This is practically one of the most important principles of design. It is important to consider all aspects of the space such as dimensions, background, middle ground, and foreground. Moreover, both the positive space and the negative space should be considered since these spaces represent the space of the shape of the subject matter, and the open space around the subject matter correspondingly. Color. Color is practically the life of any given space. Colors are created when it is hit with a light and is reflected back to the eye, creating illusions of depth. As such, the choice of colors is another important principle in design. Aside from the fact that colors draw the attention to a particular image, colors also increase the visual appeal of an object. Various colors can be created to achieve the desired effect. Line. This is the primary component of a shape. From the continuous movement of a point along a surface, lines are produced. Practically, the line sets the limit or the boundaries from which the extent of work is done. Lines are characterized by length, direction, and thickness and serves as the building blocks of any design plan. Shape. The shape is one of the dictating factors of design. Usually, design concepts are derived from the shape of an object or a space. Shapes are areas that are enclosed by lines extended in two dimensions. Any interior design will definitely work out well as long as the principles and elements of design are observed; and knowledge and creativity are integrated. Whenever you have all these, you can practically design any space that you desire.
