Roof Raking Methods That You Could Use

By: Andrew Caxton Home | Home-and-Family | Landscaping-Gardening

This article on snow roof rakes tells exactly how roof raking can be done safely and quickly that too without putting in too much of manual efforts.

Why snow removal from rooftops is tough?

One can observe that, houses in colder regions, where snowfall is regular have inclined roofs. These are specifically made so that the snow does not get accumulated on the roofs and automatically slides down due to the gravitational force and a little effort on part of the homeowner. Therefore attempting to remove the snow from rooftops is not as easy as removing the snow from the garden, as the inclined roofs make it difficult for mechanical tools to be used. The homeowner has to either use manual equipment or best call for roof raking experts.

Roof rakes and the materials of Plastic and Aluminium

Roof rakes and aluminum ladder are required to remove the snow off the rooftops. These rakes are either made of hard plastic and/or aluminum and are attached to tube extensions. Aluminum is widely preferred for rakes as they are tougher than plastic. For roof raking a ladder is a must as accessing the roof is not possible as they are inclined, and the presence of snow makes it more slippery and unsafe. Hence, all the snow that can be reached with the tube extensions is removed and the inaccessible portion is left to clear on its own. One can use chemical deicers also for this purpose and these are easily available in the market.

Tips for safe Roof Raking

Avoid the following while roof raking Never climb the roof. The roofs are sloping, and the presence of snow makes the surface slippery, hence making it the perfect combination for causing an accidental fall by slipping. Avoid using mechanical tool for chopping or pounding off the accumulated snow, like tips on john deere snow blowers Avoid unanchored ladders. If the ladder is not firmly anchored on a firm base then there are chances of it loosing grip and falling off.

The easiest and effortless method of roof raking is installing de-icing cable for gutters and roofs. This cable is installed parallel to the gutter on the roof and is used to increase the temperature, which helps the ice to melt.

The temperature controller of this cable is fitted in the house to avoid heating of the segments under the cable.
